Take me away,
For I must escape
The reality of who
I really am without you.
My place is as a shadow,
My fear is that I will show.
Without my wish,
I cannot exist.
I long to be a secret
Hidden in the midst of it.
Dark is a shade I know;
I do not expect you to go.
Loneliness is a companion
And my misery welcomes the friend.
Tears are my appalling comfort,
Along with your old, wrinkled shirt.
Remember that night?
The stars illuminated the sky with light,
And the ground was wet
Where the rain and grass met.
A severed heart unable to heal,
Nothing even seemed to be real.
I have become nothing now,
And, to my own surprise, I don’t know how
We were led here
No more worries about mere
Nonsensical fantasies that cause pain
Or that night with the stars and the rain.
